Nov. 14, 2022
Mike LaSpina will be the president of Local 406 GCC/IBT for the next three years. An incumbent, he prevailed in a race with member Ted Phillips.
The final count is LaSpina 40, and Phillips 12.
The tally of in-person and absentee ballots was made in the Floral Park offices of the Honest Ballot Association on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022. All ballots were counted, including two challenge ballots from individuals who were not on the official roster but have since been certified as being dues-paying members. Counting began at 12:35 and ended at 12:41 p.m.
Present for the count by staff of Honest Ballot were Local 406 Secretary-Treasurer Liisa May and incumbent 406 President Mike LaSpina. Candidate Phillips emailed to say work prevented his attendance.
Even though there is a declared winner, the vote tally cannot be certified until official challenges filed by candidate Phillips are resolved. Further details will be available during the general meetings at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16. (Members will be sent Zoom links by email.)
WHAT HAPPENS NOW? Honest Ballot will now store the ballots for a year to give time for the challenge process to take place. When the challenges are resolved, the vote can be certified, and you will be notified.
BACKGROUND ON VOTING. In-person voting took place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the union office complex at 246 Conklin St., Farmingdale. The deadline to request an absentee ballot was Oct. 31, and the ballots were mailed to 23 members on Nov. 1. The deadline for returning them to Honest Ballot was Nov. 14 at noon.
In unity,
Liisa M. May
Secretary-Treasurer Local 406 GCC/IBT
